Cedarwood

Used in ceremony and meditation for thousands of years across Native American, Buddhist and Egyptian traditions, cedarwood is one of the most calming and grounding notes in natural aromatherapy, known to reduce anxiety and support sleep.

Frankincense

One of the most ancient aromatic materials known, traded for over 5,000 years, frankincense slows the breath and quiets the mind, traditionally burned to ease stress, grief and promote emotional balance.

Vetiver

Known as the Oil of Tranquility in India and Sri Lanka for over 3,000 years, vetiver comes from the roots of a grass native to India and is one of the most effective natural interventions for anxiety, deeply earthy and grounding.

Amyris

A warm, softly woody oil from the West Indies, amyris is a sustainable alternative to sandalwood that eases tired minds.

Amyris

Juniper berry

Used traditionally to lift the spirits during times of low energy and anxiety, juniper berry has a crisp, slightly fruity, clean herbal quality that is immediately uplifting and clarifying.

Green tea

With over four thousand years of history, green tea is associated with clarity, stillness and calm focus, bringing a clean, slightly green freshness to the blend that energises without stimulating.

Clary sage, labdanum resin, cedarwood. The one you reach for after a long day. Deep, earthy, still.

Clary sage

One of the most studied plants in natural aromatherapy for stress and anxiety relief, its name comes from the Latin clarus, clarity, and that's exactly what it does, clearing the mind and easing tension after a long day.

Labdanum resin

Collected from the rockrose shrub, labdanum is one of the oldest aromatic materials known, mentioned in Genesis, possibly an ingredient in the sacred incense of Exodus. Warm, amber and resinous, it anchors the blend and brings a deep, timeless stillness.

Cedarwood

Used in ceremony and meditation for thousands of years across Native American, Buddhist and Egyptian traditions, cedarwood is one of the most grounding notes in natural aromatherapy, calming and sleep-supporting, it brings the blend home.

Lavender

The most widely studied essential oil in aromatherapy, lavender is calming, familiar and balancing, softening the deeper notes in Dusk without dominating them.

Mizen

Bright · Uplifting · Energising

Bergamot, pine needle, lemon, green tea. A light, sharp and energising scent for when you need your mood lifted and your mind awake.

Bergamot

Often called nature's prozac by aromatherapists, bergamot is one of the most effective natural oils for lifting mood and reducing anxiety, with a bright, citrusy scent that is immediately uplifting and energising.

Pine needle

Scots pine, native to the British Isles and northern Europe, has been used traditionally to clear the mind and purify the air, bringing a fresh, resinous, clean quality to the blend that is immediately invigorating.

Lemon

Cold pressed from the peel, lemon is one of the simplest and most honest ingredients in the Dolva range, bright and clean, reinforcing the bergamot without duplicating it.

Green tea

How they're made

Every piece is thrown by hand in our Atlanta studio, in small batches, with the first pieces launching soon. The clay fires fully vitrified, non-porous and heat safe.

Thrown on the wheel

Each piece is centred and thrown by hand, with slight differences in height, width and wall thickness that are the natural mark of the wheel rather than inconsistency.

Stamped while wet

While the clay is still leather-hard, the scent name or your chosen word is pressed in, drying into the piece and remaining through both firings.

Bisque fired

The first firing removes all moisture and hardens the clay, and we measure each piece after bisque to determine exactly which wick size to use for the candle.

Glazed by hand

Reactive glaze is applied by hand, with the interior fully glazed for candle safety. Because the glazes are reactive, no two pieces come out of the kiln exactly the same, the colour shifts and the edges break differently on every piece.

Glaze fired

The final firing vitrifies the clay completely, making it non-porous and heat safe. Each piece is tested and measured before any candle wax is poured.

Personalised pieces

Your name. A date.
A word that means something.

Every Dolva piece can be personalised with a word of your choice, pressed into the clay before it's fired and permanent from that point. A name, a date, a place, up to eight characters. If you need to think about what to put on it, that's usually a good sign.

Popular for weddings, new homes, memorials, birthdays, and moments that deserve more than a card.

The glazes

Four glazes.
Every piece different.

Every piece is fired on a light grey-white stoneware that fires fully vitrified and non-porous. The glazes are reactive, which means the same glaze behaves differently on every piece, with edge breaks, pooling and colour variation that are the natural result of the kiln rather than inconsistency. Four glazes to choose from, entirely independent of the scent you pick. The piece is yours.

Deep slate blue

Reactive. The colour shifts and breaks differently on every piece depending on how the glaze pools in the kiln.

Sea green

Reactive, with a turquoise quality that changes with the light. Strong contrast against the cream wax.

Coastal sage

Somewhere between green and grey, with the quiet, settled quality of clifftop grass. The most versatile of the four and the one that goes with everything.

Terracotta

Warm and soft, earthy tones that vary with each firing. A popular choice as a gift.
